Fashion has existed since ancient times, and since then, it has been a differentiating element between social classes. Positioning itself as an object of desire among the upper classes. There were tailors and artists dedicated to making garments from the ancient Egyptians to the present day. EGYPTIAN, GREEKS AND ROMANS, BEGINNINGS OF FASHION
Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans were civilizations that cultivated art, music, and literature. Still, they were also pioneers in clothing and fashion. The diversity of fabrics and designs was changing, giving rise to different trends throughout history. In ancient Egypt, clothes were used to mark the difference between social classes. Thus the first tailors appeared and gave rise to designer fashion. Men used to wear short skirts, folded and cinched at the waist, called Schenti. The women wore long suits, known as Kalasiri.
But what best differentiated social classes were the type of fabric used for clothing. It was common to see furs and jewels in the garb of the highest social classes, while slaves were half-naked.
Seasonal clothing began to appear with the Greeks. Spring-summer and autumn-winter designs, as well as ornamentation on women's clothing. Ruffles and rhinestones adorned women's dresses. The robes were worn by men and women, but the designs for women were more close to the body, marking their silhouettes.
In Rome, fashion reached all its splendor, and designer fashion took on great importance within society. It was common to see cabinets of nobles and kings full of dresses of all colors and fabrics. Professions such as embroiderers, shirtmakers, and shoemakers appeared, and these fashion art professionals began to gain prestige in society.
THE FASHION MEETING AMONG CULTURES
During the Middle Ages, fashion was still governed by the Roman trend. Still, the arrival of barbarians, Byzantines, and Arabs began to have a great influence on design, introducing garments from each of the cultures.
The trend during those years was to cover the body. Long dresses, capes, sashes, turbans, and hats. Also, panties appeared, not as we know them today, they were pants that were placed under the clothes. As well as leggings, a kind of thick stockings.
Design fashion workshops began to be created as independent artisans and not linked to any noble or king.
From the 15th to the 18th century, fashion was continually changing. During the Renaissance, Italian style prevailed. Feather hats, wide-toe shoes, skirts, and bodices. Later, French-style incorporated silk stockings dress in pleats and heeled shoes, necklines, and jackets. In Spain, the mantillas appear, the silk ones being the most coveted.
HIGH SEWING FASHION ARRIVES TO STAY
With the French revolution, a new fashion concept appears. Haute couture appeared in Paris in the mid-nineteenth century. Since then, the speed at which fashion has evolved has been frantic.
From the appearance of the bra, the pantyhose, the jacket suit, the mini skirt, and the tight dresses to highlight the woman's silhouette. Great designers appear, and excellent world fashion events are created. Paris, New York, Milan ... become the world headquarters of haute couture.
In the 1960s, bell-bottoms appeared, floral prints and boots became women's footwear. In the 80s and 90s, freedom of expression gave rise to transparency, and lingerie was no longer a taboo subject in society.
Fashion has been cyclical for many years. We are currently experiencing moments of change, and new trends will emerge, especially a new way of understanding fashion.
